The first meeting was held on December 12, 1979 in the home of Louis MacCormack, at his kitchen table. It was decided that they would keep their eyes open for a suitable place to open a branch, and in the meantime would hold meetings wherever they could find space.
There were 6 veterans present:
Louis MacCormack
Harry Fidgen
George Sullivan
(Little) Ben Henneberry
Martin Doyle
Ron McKenzie
The second meeting was held June 6, 1981 at Louis MacCormack's home and chaired by Martin Doyle from Somme Branch #31.
Nov 8, 1981 the third meeting was held in St. Andrew's church hall, and chaired by Lawrence Silver.
May 13, 1982 the fourth meeting was held in the Lion's Hall, chaired by Lawrence Silver. Councillor Deveau promised to do all he could to help the Legion get a lease on the former Wellington School.
It was pointed out that we would have to have at least 10 members to form a new branch. At least 12 members said they would transfer from Somme Branch #31. 18 veterans attended.
October 28, 1982 the fifth meeting was held at the Lion's Hall. 19 persons attended and the interim slate of Officers were elected:
President Lawrence Silver
1st Vice Louis MacCormack
2nd Vice Martin Doyle
Secretary Steve Larkin
Treasurer Don Waynor
Sgt. at Arms Larry Joyce
The name decided on at this meeting was Eastern Passage Cow Bay Branch #164. After some consultation with command, who said the name was too long, it was decided to rename it to Caen Branch #164.
February 12, 1983 was the first meeting held in the current building, which at the time was owned by the school board. It was later purchased, and has since been renovated and expanded to better suit the purposes of the Legion.
